Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for you to voluntarily share that you have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that you may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time in shops, at work, on transport, or in public spaces.

Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it is not there!

Globally 1 in 6 of us live with a disability. That is approximately 1.3 billion people.

But while some of us experience a disability that is visible, many have a non-apparent condition or experience a combination of both visible and non-apparent conditions. These disabilities can be temporary, situational or permanent. They can be neurological, cognitive and neurodevelopmental as well as physical, visual, auditory and include sensory and processing difficulties. They can also be respiratory as well as chronic health conditions such as arthritis and diabetes, chronic pain and sleep disorders.

The Alliance of Hope for Suicide Loss Survivors

The Alliance of Hope for Suicide Loss Survivors was created by survivors for survivors.

As a 501(c)3 charitable nonprofit, we provide online healing support and other services for people who are coping with devastating loss to suicide. Our online forum operates like a 24/7 support group. Our website contains support resources and information on the survivor experience.

The Alliance of Hope is a non-denominational and non-discriminating non-profit that recognizes and appreciates each individual’s contribution to the quality of life. Our staff, volunteers, community members, and clients are survivors from diverse cultures and faith traditions, bound together by similar loss.

We are grateful to our trained team of forum moderators. We often say “they put the hope in the Alliance of Hope.” Each moderator is a suicide loss survivor who understands the challenges faced by survivors. They have reached a point in their own grief journey where they have integrated devastating loss into their lives. They honor – but are not dominated by the past.

Each moderator volunteers hundreds of hours a year in support of new loss survivors. They bear witness to people’s stories, provide information, and extend hope for going beyond just surviving.

Community Forum - The Alliance of Hope free online forum transcends time and distance, offering a culture of kindness, hope, and understanding to people who have lost loved ones to suicide. Operating like a 24/7 support group, our forum is supervised by a mental health professional and moderated by a trained team of loss survivors. Members can read and comment, share their stories, and connect with other suicide loss survivors.
